Types of re-registration appointments
There are different types of re-registration for a child born in England or Wales. For example
- A birth may be re-registered following the natural parents' marriage or civil partnership to show the child as a child of marriage or civil partnership.
- A birth may be re-registered to add the natural father's details where the existing record does not show any father and the child's natural parents have not married or formed a civil partnership with each other since the date of the child's birth.
- A birth may be re-registered following the marriage or civil partnership of two female parents to show the child as a child of marriage or civil partnership.
There’s no fee to re-register a birth. New birth certificates cost 拢12.50 each and can be bought at your appointment.
Re-registration following the natural parents' marriage or civil partnership
- One completed , signed by both parents, for each child to be re-registered.
- You will need to bring your original UK marriage or civil partnership certificate. If you were not married in England, Wales, Scotland or Northern Ireland, we will need to refer your application to the General Register Office for authorisation before any re-registration can take place.
- One parent must go to the register office to complete the re-registration.
Adding the natural father's details
