Fostering through play and presence with Hannah

Growing up as a bio-child of foster parents, I have experienced the impact, and potential joy, that opening our home to children can have. Fostering has become an integral part of my life; one of my foster brothers joined our family when I was twelve, and he has been with us ever since.

Now in my twenties, I engage in day visits and short break fostering with young children. I have always enjoyed spending time with little kids, and my goal is to create joyful and memorable experiences while providing their foster carers with a much-needed break.

One of the most rewarding aspects is getting to know their vibrant personalities. Whether we’re playing in the ball pit at my local soft play centre or having a cosy cuddle session, I love discovering each child's unique quirks and interests. Every child has their own story, and by spending time with them, you get to see their laughter, creativity, and sometimes cheekiness.

These day-visits and sleepovers not only contribute to the Fostering community, but they also allow you to take on a more “fun” role, much like that of a grandparent. Of course, not every moment is sunshine and rainbows, but the smiles and laughter of the children make it all worth it. It’s also an excellent way to learn more about fostering and to determine if you're interested in exploring other forms.
