Tice’s Meadow is a newly developed Site of Nature Conservation Interest (SNCI) on the site of the former Farnham Quarry. This 55-hectare site is widely considered to be one of the best inland sites to watch birds in the southeast of England.

By Road

  • Tice’s Meadow, Badshot Lea Road, Runfold, Farnham GU9 9LY
  • There is no car park available at Tice’s Meadow. We advise to please park safely on adjoining roads being considerate to residents.

By Public Transport

  • Nearest Train Stations are Farnham and Aldershot

  • Cyclists are not permitted to cycle within this site. Blackwater Valley path runs close by and is suitable for cyclists.

Things to see and do

Enjoy peaceful walks with the opportunity to spot rare birds and other wildlife. Many rare and protected species call this home with over 200 bird species, 30 dragonfly species and 34 butterfly species recorded.

Nature to discover

  • Trees: Oak, beech, hawthorn
  • Flora and fauna: Bee orchid, pyramidal orchid
  • Birds: Skylark, lapwing, little ringed plover, little egret, yellow wagtail, common tern, stonechat.
  • Butterflies and dragonflies: Brown hairstreak, small heath, marbled white, speckled wood and brown hawker, ruddy darter, lesser emperor, small red-eyed damselfly, willow emerald damselfly
  • Mammals: Roe deer, fox, badger, bank vole, water shrew

Facilities

  • Dogs allowed. During ground nesting bird season (1 March to 15 September) keep dogs under close control and on paths. We recommend putting dogs on leads around livestock
  • Benches located throughout this site
  • There are no bins on this site, please take your litter and dog waste home with you
  • There are no refreshments or toilets on site. The nearest caf茅 and toilets are located at The Cricketers Pub or Squires Garden Centre Badshot Lea

Self-guided trail

There is one self-guided trail at Tice's Meadow, the Biodiversity trails. Take a photo of the information board before setting off and follow the colour coded route and signposts along the way.

Follow the circular Biodiversity trail which takes you around the site. There are many benches to rest on along the trail to enjoy the views. Interpretation panels tell you about the wildlife and species you might spot, and there are brass rubbing posts near rest points.

Volunteer at Tice's Meadow

Please come and join our rangers and volunteer at Tice's Meadow. Tasks might include; clearing vegetation, litter picking, maintaining paths, fence and gate repairs, habitat management, wildlife surveys and more.

We have volunteer sessions running on the following dates:

  • Friday 29 August
  • Friday 12 September
  • Friday 26 September

All sessions run from 10.00am to 2.00pm (please meet at Horton's Mound which is shown on our interpretation boards around the site).

Accessibility

  • Unsurfaced paths (can get muddy in winter)
  • All weather access on surfaced path from the estate entrance
  • Radar gates situated at Main, Estate and Eastern entrances. Please contact our countryside estate team (via the Contact Us tab) for further details about accessing the site via these gates
  • There are no accessible self-guided trails at this site
  • There are no refreshments or toilets on site. The nearest caf茅 and toilets are located at The Cricketers Pub or Squires Garden Centre Badshot Lea
  • The nearest easy walk trail is located at Lakeside Nature Reserve walk
