Course intent
Discover the traditional craft of Chair Caning (including specifics like rush seating and Danish cord). This is an opportunity for more experienced learners to understand more advanced techniques of seat weaving. During this one-day workshop you will learn how to cane a small frame or in the case of Rush and Cord, work on your own chair.
What will I learn?
You will learn:
- About the tools used and how to use them safely
- The basic techniques of seat weaving
- How to cane a small frame OR
- How to Rush or Cord your own chair
Who is this course for? Is there anything I need to know before joining?
This course is for Improvers & those with some experience of seat weaving techniques.
What do I need to bring to the first class? Will there be any extra costs?
You need to bring:
- A notebook and pen
Cost of materials will be paid to the tutor on the day of the course.

What can I do when I finish the course?
The skills learnt during the day will enable you to embark on your own chair project at home or you could enrol on a longer upholstery course to develop your upholstery skills further.
