Course intent
Discover the world of mixed media art in this dynamic and inspiring course. During this introduction to creative techniques, you will learn painting, drawing, collage and printmaking skills and make your own simple books and artworks. Mixed media art is a versatile and exciting form of artistic expression that combines a range of materials and creative techniques to develop unique and visually captivating artworks.
What will I learn?
This course will introduce you to the fundamentals of mixed media art. You will receive guidance to help you create artworks using a range of different art media, and techniques, in the classroom and at home.
1. Use a range of techniques for mark-making and creating patterns as you progress on to creating your own collage designs
2. Create your own decorative papers using gelli plates and other painting and relief printing techniques. Experiment with various colour palettes and combinations
3. Make simple folded structures that will take sketches, painted images or collage in the form of a journal, zines or sketchbook.
4. Use various sources for inspiration such as contemporary artists, online search, and other sources.
As this course takes place over several sessions, you will find you make the most progress if you attend every lesson and complete any home practice that is suggested.
Who is this course for? Is there anything I need to know before joining?
This course is suitable for anyone who wants to learn painting, drawing, collage and printmaking at a beginner level. You do not need to have any previous knowledge in the subject, just an interest and willingness to learn.

What can I do when I finish the course?
Stage 1 runs for 3 terms, so you can progress onto the next term of Mixed Media Art with Printmaking & Collage to continue your learning. After 3 terms, you can enrol onto Stage 2.
