Course intent

Learn how to design and craft beautiful mosaics using a range of beginner-friendly techniques. With full guidance from the tutor, you will develop your creativity and design skills while working on your own unique projects.

What will I learn?

You will learn how to:

• Cut and shape ceramic and glass mosaic tiles
• Select suitable materials for both interior and exterior projects
• Apply grouting techniques
• Understand the differences between direct and indirect mosaic methods
• Design and create your own individual mosaic project
• Research, plan, make, and evaluate your finished piece

Who is this course for? Is there anything I need to know before joining?

Stage 1 – This stage is for learners who are new to their chosen subject area. With the focus on introducing individuals to basic materials, tools, and techniques, and to inspire confidence in creative expression.

Please note: This course is in two parts, either side of the half-term break. This is due to the introduction of a new course, subject, or tutor. To attend for the full term, please enrol on both parts in advance to secure your place.

What do I need to bring to the first class? Will there be any extra costs?

You need to bring:

• A sketchbook
• A Pen
• Apron (or wear old clothes)
• Closed toe shoes

All tools and equipment will be provided for use in the classroom, including mosaic tile cutters, safety goggles, gloves, adhesive, grout, and a backing board.

Your tutor will advise you of any additional materials needed during the first session.

What can I do when I finish the course?

After discussing with your tutor, you may wish to explore other SAL arts and crafts courses or workshops.
