Course intent

The intent of this workshop is to draw, and then paint, a flower or group of flowers, in the style of Charles Rennie Mackintosh, using pencil and watercolour.

You can choose one of his paintings for inspiration, any flower image of your choice, or bring real flowers or potted plants to paint from.

What will I learn?

• How to choose a balanced composition
• A choice of techniques to draw your composition n proportion
• How to plan your colour mixes
• A choice of watercolour painting techniques
• Layering your colours to achieve 3D effects
• Adding finishing touches

Who is this course for? Is there anything I need to know before joining?

This course is for people wanting to improve their watercolour skills and who have been using watercolour paint for at least a year.

What do I need to bring to the first class? Will there be any extra costs?

Please bring:

• Cold Pressed Watercolour paper – A4 or larger
• Watercolour brushes: whatever brushes you are already using, or a large medium and small round brushes
• Watercolour paints: French Ultramarine, Winsor Blue Green Shade, Cadmium Lemon, Cadmium Yellow, Permanent Rose, Cadmium Red (or the nearest equivalent to these)
• Mixing Palette
• The tutor will bring a choice of images, and you are welcome to bring your own.

What can I do when I finish the course?

Helen Kelly teaches drawing and watercolour painting in Farnham on Tues mornings and evenings. And in Guildford on Friday mornings. Helen also offers watercolour Saturday workshops in both Guildford and Farnham.
