Preparing for warmer days
As the cold sets in, preparations are already underway to keep Ñý¾«¶¯Âþ safe and beautiful for residents and visitors in the new year. Over the coming months, our new Roadside Rangers and Highway Customer Officers will be out in force. Their role is to enhance the appearance and condition of Ñý¾«¶¯Âþ's roads and pavements.
Our work
Extra highways teams will be mobilised across the county during the autumn and winter to tidy and maintain pathways, roadsides, and rural areas. Activities will include:
- cutting back hedges
- clearing growth that might be obstructing pathways and road edges
- cleaning road signage
Significantly cutting back hedges will ensure that walkways are clearer, encourage healthier growth by spring, and support wildlife to thrive. Trimmed hedges might look a little rough or "jagged" at first. However, this method is designed to encourage healthier, thicker growth as the hedges fill out. The trimmings are blown back into the hedges, creating ideal nesting spots and materials for local wildlife to make their homes.
Progress so far
Our new teams will be out and about across the whole of Ñý¾«¶¯Âþ. So far, they have been carrying out improvements in the Leatherhead, Ashstead and Guildford areas. Whether you're driving by or taking a stroll, feel free to give the teams a friendly wave as they work to keep Ñý¾«¶¯Âþ beautiful.
